POLICE COURT.

(Before Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M.) FRITZ IN A LIFEBOAT. Fritz Hofslund, a Norwegian and a member of the crew of the steamer Tugela, had a day out yesterday. He got drunk and also got into trouble, being charged, apart from drunkenness, with using obscene langnage and also with being found by night without lawful excuse on the auxiliary scow Otimai at the Northern wharf. Hofslund, who could not speak one word in English, stated, through the interpreter, who happened to be the captain of the Tugela, that he did not remember anything about any of the charges.

A nightwatchman employed by the Northern Company said that Fritz was found asleep in the lifeboat of the Otimai. ««nen roused from slumber he went down into the seamen's quarters, and when near the Manaia just prior to her sailing last night for Whangarei. he made use of several obscene words.
