TOWN CLERK'S TOUR.

With the purpose of investigating the administration of largj cities abroad, Mr. J. S. Brigham (town clerk) left Auckland to-day by the mail steamer Niagara. During his tour the town clerk, who is accompanied by Mrs. Brigham, will visit many leading cities in Canada, United States, Great Britain and Europe, and will return, via Australia, about the end of the year. In a farewell that w.is tendered Mr. Brigham last week by the heads of the City Council departments, reference was made to the proposed investigations, and Mr. W. E. Bush (city engineer) said that all were confident the result of such inquiries would be of much value. Ai an inquiry into the methods of city administration in other countries, the tour of Mr. Brigham is the most comprehensive that the City C-unctl has directed. -..r. Brigham has been in the council's service for 26 years, beginning in the treasury department in 1900. During the town clerk's absence, Sir. J. Melling will be acting-town clerk. Mr. MeUing has been a member of the staff in the town clerk's department since 1910.
