SCHOOL COMMITTEE ELECTION
(To the Editor.) Sir, —Now that the school committee elections are over, it is quite evident that there is little or no interest shown in the proceedings. In most cases the required number of candidates only is nominated, thus obviating an election, and the reports generally are not worth going any distance to hear. May I suggest to the Education Board or Department, whichever is the governing: body directing these affairs, to cancel the "use of nomination papers requiring a candidate to be nominated a week beforehand, and reintroduce the same system that is now in vogue in country districts, and formerly held in our town schools? That is, allow all candidates to be nominated at the householders' meeting. It would stimulate interest again as in the past, when at times our schools were not large enough to accommodate the crowds that used to attend these meetings, and showed continued interest in the education system of our country am, etc., E. S. INWOOD.
