WAITEMATA POWER BOARD.

DEVONPORT AGREEMENT APPROVED. The Waitemata Power Board met yesterday. There were present:—Messrs. J. \V. Havden (chairman I, A. E. Greenslade. E. C. Walton, W. 11. T. Leighton, F. W. Grigg, G S. West, J. Mackie and Jas. McLeod.

Messrs. Leighton, Grigg and the engineer (Mr. W. P. Gauvain). were empowered to confer with the county engineer regarding expediting the delivery of poles to the county' areas and Helensville.

The chairman and Messrs. Leighton and the engineer were authorised to confer with the Takapuna Tramways Company in respect to the claim of the board for compensation arising out of the decision of the directors not to electrify the Takapuna tramway system. The agreement with Devonport was finally approved. The chairman stated that the petition contained over 600 signatures of Devonport ratepayers, which was more than sufficient to give effect to the merger with Waitemata. The tender of (.'. N. Williamson and Co. for fifty two-horse power motors at ±8 10/10 each, was accepted. The engineer stated that the motors ordered were of English make. It- was stated that of the 310 poles, 3oft in length, which recently arrived, all the dressed poles had been delivered to Northcote and Birkenhead, the balance being natural round poles, these being sent to Rewiti and Helensville. Some of the 30ft poles had gone to the North Shore, and to finish the reeticulation at Glen Eden.

The heating of glasshouses by electricity was introduced in a letter from a fruitgrower at Glen Eden. As this question affected Birkdale and other portions of the area, the matter was referred to the engineer to endeavour to formulate a satisfactory basis of charge and to invite those concerned to furnish all information possible regarding temperatures required, etc.

It was decided to inform the Brown's Bay Progressive Association that the board had proceeded first with the reticulation of the area in accordance with the main scheme outlined when the loan was submitted. The matter of extensions would be considered as soon as possible, and a canvasser would be sent to Brown's Bay and neighbouring localities during the next Christmas holidays, when the summer residences at these places would be occupied. Mr. J. McLeod moved and Mr. Leighton seconded: "That the consumers' deposit of ten shillings, collected from all consumers in New Lynn who were consumers prior to the Waitemata Electric Power Board taking over, be refunded.'' This was lost, the mover and seconder and Mr. Greenslade voting for the motion, and the other five members against.
