SKULL CRACKER CORPS.
ORDER PER BLUDGEON.
QUAINT SCOT'S SUGGESTION.
FREE SPEECH, FREE FIGHT
(By Cable.—Press Association.—Copyright.) (Received 12.30 p.m.) LONDON, April 23. There was a lively discussion at the Scottish Trade Union Congress at Inverness on a resolution submitted by the I Glasgow Trades Council suggesting the [ formation' of a workers' defence corps | for the purpose of facing organised hooli- | ganism at Labour meetings. | One speaker said that such a corps* would put into the hands of the em- | ployers arguments and reasons why they ' should employ gunmen against workers, leading to anarchy in its worst form. A member of the General Council said if they introduced a defence corps or an array of skull crackers it would mean chaos on both sides. The proposer of the resolution said that .the ■ day had passed when their speakers could expect protection from the police. The motion was defeated by a large majority.—(A. and N.Z.)
