NOR'-WEST EXPEDITION.
ACHIEVEMENTS OF THE LEADER. Mr.- Douglas Stuart Wylie, who has been chosen as leader of the Australian expedition into, the, North-western territory of the Australian Continent, will leave Auckland about- "the beginning of next month for Sydney.
Mr. YYylie has to his credit, many achievements in the exploration field. In .1918, in. company .with Mr. Frank Burnett, F.E.G.S. (of Vancouver), he- made a survey of the island of Savaii, and in the coiirse of- a* tramping tour riglit round -that -island; added considerably-to the ' kn6\Vledge of* geographic and romantic features.. Mr. tV'ylie, in company with Dr.-Morton-(now of-Oaruaru) also made* interesting investigations in the 'island o'FUpolu, in the' Samoan group and his trip to. the leper island of Xu'Utele was also much commented upon several years ago. Other explorations hyMr. YY'ylie have led him;into'China and Japan' and recently he has done much travelling in Australia and Xew Zealand; After his. Australian expedition, he. intends to publish a book on Australasia.
