SHOPS AND HOLIDAYS.
AN INVERCARGILL CASE. | ■ „* | (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) | INVERCARGILL, Thursday. An unusual case was before the Court to-day. The inspector of factories claimed £25 from H. and J. Smithy who conduct departmental stores, including drapery, for failing. to close their premises and give the assistants a full holiday on the date chosen by the Shop Assistants' Union for the annual picnic. Defendant stated his employees had their own annual picnic. Counsel held that the case must fail, as there was no proof of a resolution appointing March 3 as picnic day, and the magistrate dismissed the case on this ground.
