LEAGUE CONTROL.

THE ANNUAL MEETING. OFFICERS FOR THE SEASON. The annual meeting of the New Zealand Rugby League was held at the Auckland League rooms in Grey Buildings last night, Mr. J. Carlaw presiding over a meeting of delegates, which included two from Christchurch, while other Southern Leagues had Auckland residents to represent them. A general feeling of satisfaction with the game's progress and prospects was axpressed by a number of the delegates in supporting the adoption of the report and balance sheet, which have already been published. The president's declaration that the year had been one of the most forward in the League's history, was strongly echoed by delegates. The Office-bearers. The election of officers resulted: Tatron, Dr. H. T. Thnoker; president, Mr. J. Carlaw; vice-presidents, Messrs. D. W. McLean (Auckland), E. Ivory (Wellington), E. H. Healey (Canterbury), P. Smythe (Timaru), J. T. Cooper (Otago), J. G. Mingham (West Coast), and one from South Auckland; secretary, -Mr. W. O. Carlaw; treasurer, Mr. N. D. Culpan; auditor, Mr. W. M. McLean; medical officers, Dr. Leslie Thompson and Dr. Tracy Inglis; N.Z. rep resenta rive in Australia, Mr. E. H. Mair; N.Z. representative in England, Major C. P. Cash. Consideration of the balance sheets and reports of the various Leagues was . deferred. Life Memberships. '■ lit. E. H. Healey (Canterbury) was proposed as a life member, a motion which was opposed by Messrs. Stirling and Webster, the former stating that Mr. Healey's services had not been sufficiently long and outstanding, and the latter recalling that Mr. Healey was reported to have stated that he was ■ done with the game when things did not go as he desired. Mr. Pollock also opposed the motion. The Canterbury delegates pointed out that the nomination was a unanimous one from the Canterbury - Rugby League. The motion was carried. Messrs. T. Boswell, Geo. Wheatley,-W. Liversedge and A. Schofield were elected life members.

A Protest Dismissed. A. W. Healey entered a protest against j the election of Mr. Harding as selector 'for the Canterbury League on the ground that the president (Dr. Thacker) iexercised a. deliberative vote, TVhich was not according to the rules, and affected result. On this the president stated that under Tule -7 of the New Zealand Council, the chairman of a meeting, or the president, could exercise both deliberative, and casting votes. Though this was not included in the Canterbury League's rules, he ruled that all the subsidiary leagues' rules must be consistent with the rules of the headquarters body. In reply, to a question, Mr. J. Carlaw stated that the New Zealand Council's rule 7 •was brought in in 1914, •when the question -was personally put to him. Mr. W. O. Carlaw said that the Canterbury rule a were framed on the type•written rules of the New Zealand Council. Mr. Moyle stated that he understood the Canterbury League had not been advised of the change in this rule, but no doubt the change now be made. The, protest was di'missed on the ground that the Canterbury League's rule ■was in accordance "with* the New ZealandLeague's rule 7, and it was decided to inform each League that its rnles must ,he consistent with those of the controlling body. j

General. Applications for transfer from the Auckland to the Canterbury League of •Wilson-Hall and Mason were deferred pending the applications being in order. L. : R. Taylor was granted a transfer frpm South Auckland to the City Club. A report was received of the possibility of organising the game at Rotorua, and it was stated that Mr. E. H.Mair would visit Rotorua on May 4 with a view to organising the game there. Mr. Stallworthy mentioned that a later report had been received that the game had been already started at Rotorua. A report was received from the West Coast indicating that there were good prospects for organisation at Westport, and it was decided to advise that Mr. Mair would visit the Coast. x. After a long discussion in committee on matters relating to the management of Monica Park, in •Christchurch, the meeting adjourned till this evening.

THE KICK-OFF TO-MORROW. CARLAW PARK ATTRACTIONS. With a trip to England in prospect for j the test 26 players of the Dominion, the j league game will open to-morrow after- ' noon with matches by club teams that have been strongly reinforced by players all out to win distinction. A number of changes have taken place, and there is a deal of interest in observing what the" new men are like, and how the relative, strengths of the various teams have been • 'effected. Six of the top-grade senior teams will be in action tb : morrow. At Carlaw Park the game on No. 1 ground will be Ponaonby v. Devonport, two sides that are - very much the same as last year, and " are ,«vrjrected to provide a particularly "•"i-.-interesting , game. On No. 2 ground City will play Newton, the former team having kept last year's full strength,' while the latter has made many changes which are expected to bring about an improvement all round in their play. Richmond and Graf ton Athletics will meet on the Domain, and here again changes in the teams makes the issue doubtful. The Marist team, which is reported to have got a recruit or two out of the ordinary, has a bye. In the B grade the games .will be: Parnell v. Ellerslie at the Domain, Mangere v. Northcdte at Victoria Park, and Kingsland v. Otahuhu at Otahuhu. Teams:— .
