FARMERS' DISPUTE.
QUARREL ' AND ITS RESULT. (By \Telegrapn.—Own Correspondent.' RAETIHI, this day.. Before Mr. H. M. Watson, S.M., Paul Elder, farmer, was charged with resist- - ing the police and with assaulting and presenting a loaded rifle at a neighbour. Evidence showed that defendant objected _to the neighbour driving cattle over a track running through his property. It was alleged that Elder assaulted the later, who, -with the assistance of others,, took"the gun away from him and tied" him up. A constable was then sent for and had some trouble to arrest Elder. ■ The latter, who denied having presented the gun, was convicted on the ~ charge of assault and ordered to enter into a sur.ety of £100 for good behaviour. On the other charges he was ordered to come up for sentence if called upon within six months.
