DUTY ON FLOUR.

ON PARITY WITH WHEAT. LEADS TO DUMPING. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) OSMSTCHURCH, this day. A conference on wheat values was held in committee yesterday between representatives of the Canterbury Agricultural and Pastoral Association and the Canterbury Chamber of Commerce "for the purpose of endeavouring to assist the parties interested in arriving at a solution of the present difficulties." Subsequently it was reported that it had been decided that a deputation be asked to do to Wellington and inter- » view the Minister of Agriculture and the. Minister of Industries and Commerce and urge that the Government should give' effect to the following:. "That, in order to fully protect our local industries, it should be recognised as a general principle that the duty upon the manufactured .article should be greater than that on the equivalent raw° material used in its manufacture, and that a s the present duty on flour (£3 per ton) is only on a par with.the duty on wheat, we are of opinion that the duty ou flour should- be increased and that the Government should take immediate steps to exercise such powers as may be necessary to prevent the clumping of flour now. and at all future times."
