IDENTITY ESTABLISHED.
FIRE-ENGINE FATALITY. DEATH OF WIDOW. Late yesterday afternoon the identity was established of the elderly woman who was killed by the Parnell* Fire Brigade engine in Broadway. Newmarket, at noon. She was Mrs. Elizabeth Jane Power, of 33, Bassett Road, Remuera. The dead woman's purse was found on the running board of the engine and in it was a tramway card on which was written a telephone number. It was through it that the Newmarket police identified deceased. Mrs. Power was aged G.I years. She is survived by two sons and four daughters. Her youngest daughter, aged 17, and a married one, Mrs. MeLe m, are in Auckland. — An inquest was opened this morning before Mr. W. P. 'McLean, S.M., aud adjourned after evidence of identity had been given.
