FIRE AT DUNEDIN.
SHOPS AND BOARDINGHOTTSE. EXTENSIVE DAMAGE. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) DUSTEDIN , , Thursday. A fire resulting in considerable loss started at 4 o'clock this morning in one of two adjoining shops surmounted by eeyen rooms used as a boardinghouse.. and situated in King Edward Street. The outbreak ruined practically the whole of the stock of the two shops, and slightly damaged the upstairs portion. At times the fire was so fierce that the flames were well across the ' road and licking towards the hotel on ; the opposite corner. A number of the hotel -windows were broken by the intense heat. Mr. Orr Robertson, owner of the build.ing, occupied the two shops, one Qf which *m a. store. Mrs. Silvester is the ' lessee of the boardinghouse portion of ! the, building, and she has 11 boarders. The contents of the seven rooms were not covered by insurance, but the build- ; ing and shop stocks were insured for £2800 as follows: United Insurance Company, Ltd., £1100 on building; Royal Insurance Company, Ltd., £050 on stock in trade and £50 on fixtures and fittings; Victoria Insurance Company, £900 on •tock, £50 on fixtures and fittings, and £50 on machinery and tools. The stock was practically a total loss, while it was estimated that the building was damaged to the extent of about one-third of the insurance covering it, or over £360.
