AMUNDSEN'S AIRSHIP.

) WONDERFUL WIRELESS GEAR. 1 LOXDOX, March 10. From the wireless viewpoint Captain Amundsen's airship is the most efficiently equipped craft ever used in the air. The transmitting apparatus will enable the commander to communicate with the land and with ships up to 1000 miles. The airship will therefore never lose contact with civilisation. A special direction-finding device is installed to assist navigation. It is also sufficiently i sensitive to enable navigators to accurately determine the course even when over the Pole itself, when ordinary compasses are valueless, all directions being , due south. J The direction-finder will enable any station to be picked up by huge loops erected round the envelope of the air- j ship.—(A. and X.Z.) ! SOME NEW FEATURES. ROME, March 10. The trials of Captain Amundsen's dirigible have been satisfactory. A new feature is a tethering pole which is lowered from the airship's nose, from which also it is adjusted.— (A. and N.Z.) i i
