SCORIA PIT PURCHASE.

PRICE ALLEGED EXCESSIVE. A TAKAPUNA PLAINT. A scoria pit in the Borough of Takapuna was purchased recently, by that borough's council at a price of £4250- . The purchase has caused some comment among ratepayers, and at last evening's meeting of the council the Takapuna Progressive Association asked for information regarding the value of land in the vicinity of the pit, .and "why so high a price had been paid when scoria was known to exist throughout the locality. . The association also asked why the purchase had been made hurriedly, seeing that the proposition had been refused on several occasions during the past eleven years, and also if the purchase had been made in accordance with the procedure as laid "down fey members of the present council. On the motion of Mr. F. AY. Suckling it was decided that the association be informed that the council had felt justified in making the purchase and that the association could see all correspondence pertaining- to the sale in the countil's records.
