ATHLETICS.
CITY COUNCIL SPORTS. The annual picnic and sports of the Auckland City Council employees at Bine Island was a great success this year, the weather being ideal and the attendance being so large that an extra launch had to be engaged to cope with the attendance. Championship, 100yds.—R. Allen and J. Mathieson, dead heat, 1, E. Skelton 3. Employees' Sons' Race.—Moore 1, Trotter 2. Single Ladies' Kace. —Miss McCaffery 1, | Miss Neil 2. Abattoir Employees' Handicap and Cup, 100yds.— J. Brown 1, Sheffield and Palmer, dead heat, 2. <. Married Ladies' Race. —Mrs. Carpenter 1, Mrs. Taylor 2. Employees' 75yds Race.—A. Widdows 1, E. Neilson 2. Bandsmen's Race.—Wilson 1, De Bloy 2. Tug-of-War. — Northern Highways 1, Parka and Eeseryes 2. Visitors' Handicap.—H. Dodeon i. Best Baby, 9 months.—Mrs. McQuillan's baby.
