PARNELL PARK.
THE ENTRANCE ARCH. IT COST f 1200. In view of the protest of ratepayers at the unattractiveness of the stone archway which the City Council had erected at the entrance to Parnell Park, those same ratepayers will be interested to know that the cost of the archway was £1200. At the last City Council meeting. Mr. E. Phelan asked for certain particulars, and last night the City Engineer -reported that several plans were drawn up by the assistant city engineer, and from these a design was selected "and instructions given for the work to be proceeded with. No estimate of the cost was at any time prepared or furnished, but the actual cost of the work was £1200.
