THE OPENING TO-MORROW.

HARRIS HORDER SEASON.

The Blandford Park cycle stadium will he opened to-morrow evening, when the great attraction will bo the appearance of Harris Horder, the Australian cyclist, who has won fame in America of recent years by winning the American Cycle Derby and by defeating the world's sprint cycle champion, Willie Spencer. In a trip to Australia this year Horder fnaintained his reputation by disposing of the Australian champion, Deinpsey, in a half-mile sprint match, and he was persuaded while on his • way back to America to stay over in New Zealand until tho next Vancouver boat for the purpose of making his appearance at the opening of the new track at Blandford Park. In the meantime he proved his prowess unmistakably by appearances at Christchurch, and to-morrow evening Aucklanders will have the opportunity of seeing the fastest present day sprint cyclist in handicap events against Phil O'Shea, th» New Zealand champion, and others, as well as in a scratch race, in which O'Shea and the best Aucklanders will take part. In addition to the cycle sprints there will be a number . of cash and amateur pedestrian events decided on specially prepared and lighted tracks. All the lighting of the park is specially arranged to concentrate all the light on the particular track in use at the time, so that Spectators will bo able to see every detail of the races and to appreciate the strategy as well as the speed of the contestants. A special band will be in attendance at the ground. Horder is billed to take part in nieetings at the stadium on Wednesday and Saturday of next week, in addition to his performances at the opening sports.
