MR. JACK'S DEATH.
A SUDDEN COLLAPSE. >'O INQUEST NECESSARY. (By Telegraph.—Special to "Star.") DUIvEDIX, this day. The late Mr. D. W. Jack, as chairman of the Whangarei Harbour Board and an enthusiastic promoter of the North Auckland representation at the exhibition, was much interested in the Auckland provincial court, which he left a few minutes before eight o'clock to enter the adjoining sports ground where the lire brigade display and iireworks were in progress. He was observed by many friends, during the day to be looking singularly well. There was a great throng at the display, and about a quarter past eight Mr. Jack was seen to collapse and fall on the ground ill the midst of the crowd before the grandstand. An ambulance man near by at the time rendered immediate aid, and, with assistance, removed Mr. Jack to the exhibition ambulance station, while two doctors were summoned. But, from the moment of collapse he did not recover consciousness, and sank gradually into his last sleep. His iirst identification was discovered from papers showing that he had been attending the Methodist. Harbour Boards and Rotary Conferences, and was subsequently confirmed by Whangarei friends. Superintendent Cllissell. J.P., of Whangarei Fire Brigade satistied the Magistrate that an inquest was unnecessary. Local Masonic brethren placed the lodge room in King Street at the disposal of friends here, who had been requested to make arrangements pending the arrival of Mr. .lack's eldest son. Mr. A. D. Jack. The body, partly embalmed, was removed to the lodge room this evening, attended by Whangarei friends. On Friday evening at six o'clock a short memorial and Masonic service will be held, conducted by the Rev. Speer. his former minister in Whangarei. Subsequently the body will be entrained for interment at Whangarei.
