BANKRUPT APPLIES FOR
DISCHARGE.

Opposition was made in the Supreme Court yesterday to the application for discharge from bankruptcy made by j esse .Tames Hills (Mr. Johnstone), by the Official Assignee (Mr. Paterson) and a creditor, George Watkins (Mr. Cooney). The case was heard by Mr. Justice Herdman.
In evidence the bankrupt said he had been a land speculator for about 17 years. He was adjudicated on October 29. 1024. He knew that he was insolvent in July of that year. Some time before his bankruptcy he had completed a number of transactions on behalf of his -wife, but he never kept accounts to show the position between himself and h\ wife.
With regard to the purchase of a farm from Watkins witness said he transferred a mortgage for £5740 to Watlcins. He denied that he represented to Watkins that the amount was money advanced by him on the property nor had he represented that the property had been sold for £10,000.
Witness was subjected to rigorous cross-examination that lasted nearly all the afternoon, and he was questioned closely on other land deals that he had mailr (Miiviil , :v*?nt years.
After the i-\.i:iiiii:iti('ii. !iis Honor said there was further information that would have to be put' before the court, and in that case he would adjourn it until April 21.
