KAURI GUM MARKET.
The supplies of gum for the two months of this year were 365 tons for January and 337 tons for February, totalling 702 tons, as against .525 tons' for January and 492 tons for February of last year, equalling 1017 tons. This shows a falling off in supplies of 315 tons for the two months. The exports for January of this year were. 379 tons, to a value of £34,086. February shipments .ire not yet available. The market remains inactive, and stocks in store. are heavy. Until it is known just what the Control Board will do, business other than executing orders which may come to hand is likely to remain quiet, as all holders are not anxious to increase then stocks until it is known exactly what the position is regarding these stocks. The projios.il to place a levy or export tax upon all gtirn shipped is looked upon by the merchants as likely to further add to their troubles in endeavouring to mainlain the diminished trade now being done.
