TWO LIBEL ACTIONS.
LABOURITES ALLEGE SLANDER. A DUCAL DEFENDANT. (Received 10.30 a.m.) LONDON, February 2S. Mr. A. J. Cook, the secretary of the Miners' Federation, has issued a writ against the Duke of Northumberland.' claiming damages and an apology for a statement in the duke's speech at Birmingham, wherein he declared that Mr. Cook was the Third International repreeentative on the Miners' Federation executive. Mr. Cook strenuously denies this, and says his orders come from the British mincr3 and nobody else, and, moreover, he has no connection with the Third International. llr. J. Wheatley. -who was Minister of Health in Mr. Ramsay Mac Donald's Cabinet, is also claiming £nnoo damages l for slander from the publisher of the Glasgow "Eastern Arsua," also £3000 from Mr. Miller, his political onponent. in connection with a letter published in the "■Vnrus.." allesredlv charging: him with dishonesty, crookedness, meanness and with displavin? an excessive interest in convicted coiners. The actions follow Mr. Wheatlers challenge of £10(10 to anyone to publish certain unfounded rumours which were' circulating in Glassow.— ('-'Sun.") [
