V.Z. NATIVES' ASSOCIATION.
' ' (To the Editor.) Sir, —"R.F.C." considers the New Zealand Natives' Association a "nasty" precedent. A s a matter of fact, New Zealanders are about the only people here not organised. We have English people (or a portion) represented by the Yorkshire Society, also the Welsh, St. Andrew's and the Caledonian Society for the Scotch, and the Hibernian Society for Ireland and even the Asiatics have their clubs. Were these all "nasty" precedents? As for your correspondent "Manukau," I would advise him to put out his hand and grab the bed post. The difference between the early arrivals in New Zealand and the present has already been explained. They possessed backbone, and we admire them to-day.' They were prepared to enter into the thick of the battle, without purloining another fellow's claim. —I am," etc., ARTHUR CUMMINGS. (To the Editor.) Sir, —Having read with mingled feelings of amazement and disgust the letter on the above subject signed R.F.C., I would ask him, is lie aware that the people he so glibly quotes, to wit, "English, Scotch, Welsh and Irish," each have their organisations in this country, and rightly so? And so have the Dalmatians, French, and even the Chinese. Now, I submit, without fear of contradiction, from even R.F.C., that these associations, being formed for the primary purpose of conserving the interests of the individual and collective members of said, societies, irrespective of the rights of New Zealanders, are therefore more or less inimical to the welfare of the native-born. Such being the case, I deem it a piece of colossal impudence on the part of anyone to deny New Zealanders the right to organise for ow own niutual protection, and the ultimate benefit of every white New Zealander, whether by birth or adoption. We want every young New Zealander to be able to say in accents made reverent by love and pride. "This .is my own, my native land." Unlike R.F.C., I hereto append my signature.—l anj, etc., J. A. B. JOHNSTON.
