ALLEGED CRUELTY TO HORSE.
THREE MEN CHARGED. (From Our Own Correspondent.) MORRINSVILLE, Saturday. A case with an unusual feature was heard before Mr. J. H. Salmon, S.M., when charges were laid against three persons: (1) Robert Howell, farm hand, employed by William Allison, who was sharemilker for William Robert Lowry, for cruelly ill-treating a bay mare by working it with a sore shoulder; (2) against Allison, for causing the horse to be worked; and (3) against L-wry, for permitting tlv horse to be worked. The first two pleaded guilty, Lowry pleading not guilty.
The evidence showed that Lowry was away part of the time when the horse had the sore shoulder, and when he was acquainted with the fact he was unable to get another animal. The horse in question was used only occasionally in wet weather. His Worship said that, under the circumstances, he could not convict Lowry. The other two were fined, Allison £2 and Howell £1, with co=' •.
