FIGHT FOR THE ASHES.
AUSTRALIANS ASSEMBLING. HARD FIGHT AHEAD. SYDNEY, February 23. The New South Wales members of the Australian cricket eleven which is to tour England were given a farewell | luncheon by the Cricket Association. The president said a better band of men had never left Australia. Collins, in replying to the toast of the team, said that they were going to have a very hard fight, but he felt as optimistic as ever, and had great cause to be hopeful of the new members of the team as well as of the old members. The New South Wales party will pick up the remainder of the team, at Melbourne on Friday. They will sail for Tasmania on the same day. After having played two matches there they will return to Melbourne. The team will then go overland to Perth, where they will play a match and then embark for England. En route they will "play a match at Colombo. — (A. and N.Z. Cable.)
