THIS YEARS CONTEST. AUSTRALASIA NOT ENTERING. (By Cable.—Press Association.—Copyright.) (Received 9.30 a.m.) SYDNEY, this day. A meeting of the Lawn Tennis Council of Australasia unanimously decided not to send a. team to the United States this year to contest the Davis Cup. As a set-off to the decision not to enter for the Davis Cup this year, the Australasian Lawn Tennis Council has decided that, in the meantime, it will devote its energies to developing play among the juniors and to securing visits from overseas teams to Australia. A communication has already been received from the United States governing body stating that an American team will be sent to compete in the Australasian championships, and there is also a possibility of an English team coming out at the same time.— (A. and N.Z. Cable.) REGRET IN AMERICA. (Received 12 Joon.) NEW YORK, February 22. Prominent tennis player 3 and officials expressed great regret when informed of the decision not to send an Australian Davis Cup team to America this year. Borotra, the French player, said: "I am very sorry. The Australians are fine sportsmen, and I would like to meet them again this year—that is, provided we are victors in the European zone." Tilden, interviewed between the acts in a Broadway comedy, in which he is now playinjr, said: "Of course I am regretiul, but I do not blame the Australians. They have been sending teams here, and we promised to send a United States team there, but none went, which, however, was due only to the inability of five leading players to arrange their affairs. I believe the Australians will not send another team until they have men who are certain to have the" best chances of victory, thereby justifying the expense.' Tilden also indicated that he would probably not be available for the proposed Australian tour. Mr. Julian Myrick, chairman of the Davis Cup committee, said he would like to reciprocate Australian courtesy by fending a satisfactory United States'team to tour Australia next winter.— (A. and N.Z. Cable.) CANADA WILL CHALLENGE. (Received 0.30 £._.) TORONTO, February 22. T!ip Canadian Lawn Tennis Association has decided to challenge for the .Oavis Cup in 1020 in the American zone. {Reutrr.)
