The Civil Service accounts for 1924-25 show how largely, below the Overseas Settlement Department's hope the actual migration was. Following-are the respective figures:— Land settlement—-Amount authorised £107,000, expended £4000. Assisted passages—Authorised £735,000, £389,000. ; •Settlement of .migrants—Authorised •£25,000, expended £20,000. Training migrants—Authorised £27,500, expended £6750.' . . In the case of Australia, it is explained, it large -increase, was expected, but actually migration decreased by 2700 and the amount of £264,237 available as loans was not required.
