MINING NEWS.
Ohinemnri. —The mine manager reports that the south-eastern drive has been extended 25ft, making a total distance of 1660 ft from the Silverstream crosscut. The nature of the country is such that, upon the reef being encountered, payable ore may be reasonably anticipated. At the present rate of progress the reef should be to hand early in March, provided no delay is caused by the shortage of water for power. Majestic.—The mine manager reports that during the fortnight ending the 6th instant, the south drive towards the United Eection was extended 20t't. making the total distance 1393 ft. The oxidised orp. which had persisted for the full length of the drive, has now been displaced by a more favourable quartz, which shows occasional streaks of «nlphid<*. and fherp is every reason to anticipate a great improvpment in the valnp of the ore as die drive progresses.
