ROTORUA TOURNAMENT.

MAXWELL WALKER WINS FINAL. A BRILLIANT EXHIBITION. (By Teiegrapn.—own Correspondent.) ROTORUA, Friday. The final game of the first part of the 1926 tournament at Rotorua was pla3"ed this afternoon in the presence of a large gathering of (bowlers and interested spectators, among them Sir Henry Brett and Mr. F. F. Hockly, M.P. The weather was fine, but there was a gusty and tantalising wind. The personnel of the teams was as follows.— Mincham, Little, Liversidge. Whittle (Grey Lynn). Lyell, Hardie Neil, Moir, M. Walker (Auckland). • On the first head Lyell drew the shot wide., drew on kitty and Liversidge lay second. Whittle was a yard strong and Walker drew on kitty. Walker two. Whittle nil. Second.—Lyell lay a yard in front. Little drew the shot and Liversidge added another. Walker two. Whittle nil. On the second head Lyell lay a yard .in front. Little drew the shot and Liversidpre added another lay within inches; but Whittle rested it. Walker 1, Whittle 1. Fourth.— Mincham put two near kitty, but Lyell beat them. Liversidge went into the-ditch and was short. Walker drew another, His second and Whittle's first went into the ditch and then Whittle drew the shot within a foot. Walker .8, Whittle 3. Lyell got the shot on a full head and Little put one. on kitty, but Liversidge was strong, moving kitty and nearly giving the shots away. Walker took out the shots with successive bowls and lay two. Walker 10, Whittle 3. Lyell put two beauties on kitty. > Hardie Neil put in a third counter and Walker a fourth. Whittle killed the head. Lyell lay until Little played a better one and Liversidge and Whittle added one each. Walker 10. ■ Whittle 6. Eleventh.—Mincham drew two beauties. Hardie Neil drew a second with his first and trailed the kitty beautifully with his second.. Liversidge drove out the shot bowl and lay. Moir drew shot. . Whittle pushed in one, and Walker drew two. Liversidge and Walker drove and missed. Walker putting in short bowls. Walker IS, Whittle S. Sixteenth. —Mincham lay with, his last bowl. Little added another, which Hardio Neil displaced. He drew another and Liversidge followed ehoit. Walker promoted a short one into shot. Whittle drove and lay three. Walker IS, Whittle . 11. Seventeenth. —Lyell drew two on a long head and Hardie Neill sent down another.. Whittle drove for one. Walker 18. Whittle 12. Eighteenth: Mincham lay shot until Hardie Neil put in a better, the position being improved with one on kitty by Moir. Whittle drove and lay four. Walker promoted one and saved the position—Walker 19, Whittle 12. Nineteenth: Mincham sent down two fine shots. .Little put in a another. Hardie Neil saved the position and Liversidge played a "pearl."' Whittle, with a wick, drew the second, and Walker burnt the head. Lvell lay within inches of kitty. Walker ran oi.r the shot bowl and lay, Whittle retirinjr, the final figures being. Walker 22, Whittle 12. At the conclusion of the final. Mr. F. W. Wildie. president of the club, congratulated the winners upon their prowess and presented them with the pennants attached to the win and trophies. Mr. M. Walker acknowledged the comnliments and also the help given him by his team. Mr. Wilkie then bended thoir trophies to Mr. Whittle and hi? as and called far cheers for both, which were henrtilv crivpii. Mr, Whittle, in response, thanked the president, anil bore witness to the courtesy and kindness of the committee of the'Rotor-ia Club. Mr. Meredith, president of the South Auckland centre, then commented upon the great improvement in. the greens dnrinp the last four or five years since the advent of Mr. W.'Willcox, head gardener for the Tourist Department. He said they had heard that Mr. Willcox was becoming superannuated during the coming year and,wished to mark their appreciation of his work. He then handed, him a wallot well filled with notes from the visiting howlers and wished him lornr life and prosperity. Mr. AYillcox suitably responded. BRITISH TEAM'S VISIT. CONCLUSION OF THE TOUR. In the last match of their tour the vfsitors won by 184 points to 143. The Wellington Club, presented every member of the British party with silver souvenir spoons as .a parting gift. Mr. W. Crawford, of the British team, presented a ; silver kitty to the Wellington Club for singles competition.
