SIR A. MOND'S DEFECTION.
LLOYD GEORGE AND JEWS.
A HEBREW
LONDON, January 31.
According to the "'Daily Herald," Mr. Lloyd George's reference to Mr. Alfred Mond, '"Like other notorious members of his race, he has gone to his own place," has caused, bitter resentment amongst the Jews. In tile Jewish ''Chronicle' , to-day an editorial says: "It is merely a piece of rude ruggedness for a man of Mr. Lloyd George's eminence comparing a disciple who betrayed his. Master to one whom a few days ago he would, have thought it fitting, had it suited his political purpose, to beslaver with ripe unetuousness, of which the ex-Premier appears to possess so illimitable a supply." In a speech at Shrewsbury, Mr. Lloyd George alluded to the controversy aroused by his reference to Sir Alfred. He said: "No one respects the Jewish race more than I do. Whatever comments I may have made upon certain specimens of that race (and I criticised specimens of every race in turni, I have always been a great protagonist of the Jews, and no one resented more strongly attacks upon them. '"Nothing fills mc with' greater contempt than to see newspapers which are drenched in anti-Semitism trying to make political capital out of the criticism which I passed upon a certain member of that race." —(A. and N.Z. Cable.)
