DROWNED FROM LAUNCH.
MAN FALLS OVERBOARD. LONG, UNSUCCESSFUL SEARCH. From Thames comes a report that a drowning accident occurred between Ostend and Flat Island on Saturday afternoon, when Mr. George Lowson, aged 45, single, of Thames, fell overboard from the launch Wanderer. A party of five men were on the launch. Suddenly one of the party shouted that Mr. Lowson had fallen overboard. Looking back they saw him struggling some distance away. The launch was stopped, and a dinghy was rowed back to the spot where Mr. Lowson was first seen. He had disappeared in the meantime, but was seen a few minutes later quite close to the small boat.
He disappeared again before he could ■be reached, and after waiting for a long time, the dinghy rowed back to the launch, which waited close by the spot for well over an hour. The man was not seen again, and finally the launch went on its way. The men informed the police at Surfdale.
Mr. Lowson was a well-known resident of Thames. The launch Wanderer is also a Thames boat.
