PURDY BEATS MURRAY.
A SURPRISE TO DUNEDIX.
(By Telegraph.—Press Association.) * DUNEDIX, Sunday. Charles Purdy (Auckland) defeated Les Murray on points in a oatchweigbt contest last nisbt. The match was a beautiful exposition of HCientiflc boxing. clean throughout, and almost devoid of clinches. It was a fairly even bout, but Purdy's proved a valuable asset against his shortarmed opponent. Tho result was a surprise in Dunedin, as it wns generally expected that Murray would win and there are some who feel the result should nt least have i.een a draw, though they are in a minority. PURDY PROVES POPULAR. DUNEDIX, this day. The Murray-Purrly contest was clean and clever, but a little disappointing from C -spectacular point of view. Murray had J»rp pep in his punches, but Purdy refused to be made a farsret of. llr ducked and backed away with astonishing agility, and wns most popular with the crowd, the largest on rerord.
