"The oklrst living thing," exclaimed Mr. John Ewen (president of the Auckland Rotary Club), as he held up a photo before members of the Auckland Rotary Club to-day. The photograph depicting a forest scene in California was being presented to the club by Mr. Frank Lamb, of Washington, U.S.A. The central figure of the picture is one of the ■ giant Redwood trees of California. Mr. Lamb stated that it was 32 feet in diameter, 320 feet high and was reputed to be 4000 yrars old. After a pleasant Week spent in the vicinity of Auckland, including some experiences of our beautiful bush scenery, he had considered it right that the" Auckland Club should possess this link between American and New Zealand forests.
