CLUB CHAMPIONSHIPS. | TWO CENTURIES RECORDED. '' NORTH SHORES LEAD INCREASED. The round of all-day games played yesterday at Eden Park and North Shore resulted in the North Shore team's lead in the senior championship being increased. Parnell defaulted to Eden, so that the only game at Eden Park was that between Ponsonby and University. The former team made its best score of the season, 319 for eight wickets, and then declared, but University managed to make a draw of it by playing out time, making 21S for eight wickets. A feature of the afternoon was an innings of 156 not out by N. C. Snedden, who played beautiful cricket in compiling the highest individual score so far this season. ■ The game at North Shore was marked by a collapse of Grafton in the first innings, which realised only 77 runs, and hiffh scoring by North Shore, who made 324 for four wickets, including 100 by Frater, and then declared. In their second innings Grafton asrain started badly, but recovered, and failed by only a few minutes to play out time and avert an innings defeat. They made 166 runs, and Shore won the game by an . innings and SI runs. j North Shore's Big Win. ! In reply to Grafton's first innings of 77. the Shore team carried their total to 324. After Frater had been dismissed at 199, Player and Monteith carried the total to 257, when ilonteith, having just completed his half-century, was stumped in flaying forward to Leech. Daere and Player went for a hit, and there was a merry time for a few rninutos, Player knocking two sixes and two fours off one of Horspool's overs. Then Dacre hit IS off Leech, and was out leg-before off the last ball, and he declared. Player was then 6S not out. j Grafton started their second innings badly again, losing Horspool, Taylor. ; Rowntree. Allcott and Leech with the total at 34. Then Pope and Snedden stayed together for over an hour and the total was 89 when Pope went legbefore. With Sloman as a partner Snedden made runs freely, and it looked as if they might play out time, but with less than half an hour to go, Snedden finished his fine innings by being caught in the outfield. There were still three wickets to go, but the others failed to stay with Sloman, and the last wicket. fell with, two minutes to spare, and i Shore got the win by an innings. Scores:— j GRAFTON. A NAVY TEAM. j TO PLAY KE-GULARLT. A n™ and very welcome feature in Auckland crirkpt is rhe organisation of a side representing the Royal Navy (Xew Zealand Division). On Wednesday aftr-rnoon la ft a practice match was plavfd at the North Shore ; cricket ground between an plpven from some lof the warships and a local eleven. Next Wednesday, when H.M.s. Veronica will also be in harbour, a match will he piayed between a side practically representative of the navy and a local eleven, at the North Shore cricket ground, commencing at 1.30 p.m. Last Wednesday's practice match fully demonstrated that the navy has some very good players, in all three" departments of the game, hut, as is offly to be expected, none <,f them is in his best form owing to want of opportunities for practice. Notwithstanding this handicap, some very good batting and howling were shown, and some ;of the Navy's ground fielding and catching was absolutely brilliant. ! The advent of the Navy in Auckland ! cricket is exceedingly welcome, and is sure to he a factor in adding to the increasing public , interest now licins taken in the game, as was demonstrated last Wednesday when the local eleven were the guests of ihe Navy.
