FIVE MEN KILLED.
GAS EXPLOSION IN MINE. AN ILLINOIS TRAGEDY. (Received 2 p.m.) BENTON (HI.), January 29. Five men were killed in a local gas explosion at a coalmine at West Frankfort, on Friday. Safety measures are believed to have saved more than 1100 miners from possible injury in the mine, which is one of the largest and most modern in the world. The dnmage is negligible. — (A. and N.Z.
