Rickshas are quite a common feature of the East—Japan, China, Colombo, parts of India—and they are found as far west as Durban, in South Africa. But could anyone but a leisurely Chinese have evolved the idea of hanging garden-seats round a glorified wheelbarrow, and plying for hire?
