SWIMMING CHAMPIONS.

N.Z. GALA CONCLUDED. AUCKLAND HEADS THE WIICS. YALDHURST SHIELD RETAINED. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) NAPIER, Friday. The New Zealand Swimming Championships -were concluded to-night before another record gathering of the public. Some splendid swimming was witnessed, and the public saw two further New Zealand records broken. A. E. Baird (Auckland) clipping 7 4-5 sees off the 440 yds men's record, and W. Cameron (Wellington) reducing the 100 yds intermediate boys' record by 1-5 see. Results:— 440 XARDS MEN'S CHAMPIONSHIP. New Zealand record, o mm 3S 3-5 sec, by D. Pelham (Auckland). The sixth lap saw Pelham leading Lindsay by three yards, with Baird third. At this stage, Cameron and Enwright retired. On the ninth lap Pelham surrendered the lead to Lindsay, -with Baird coming up fast. Twenty yards from home Baird shot ahead, to win by three yards from Lindsay, with Pelham ten yards back, third.
