A FARMERS' GALA.

HELENSVILLE'S FINE SHOW.; GOOD DISPLAY OF LIVE STOCK. UNQUALIFIED SUCCESS ACHIEVED. (By Telegraph.—Special to "Star."j HELEXSVILLE. this day. 'J here was tiiilliant weather for the Helensville A. and I. Show, held to-day, and tho special trains which ran from all parts of the district were full of passengers. In the afternoon some thousandsj of people assembled to witness the ring j events, which were of a very high I standard. ' ! Speaking to the "Star" special reporter j the president (Mr. Albert Hanson) said | that thi;- year.- show was an unqualified success. Last year the association was hard hit by the infantile paralysis epidemic, but the farmers had got together and organised fairs and a cattle drive during the year, the result being the raising of over £300. In this year's show there are over 1000 entries in all classes. The home industries section is exceptionally fine, especially the vegetables. In the stock entries all the classes are particularly good, showing the wealth I of the district. Outstanding were the registered milking Shorthorns. The Friesian? shown came from all over the Auckland district, some of the Auckland and Whangarei winners being shown. Jerseys are not a strong entry, but are fully representative of the South Helens- I ville district, where a good class of this ! animal is bred. There are poor entries in Ayrshires. this class of animal not boing considered suitable for the Helensville district. The show of sheep has not been too good for some years past, but tli is year the entries would be hard to beat in any ] other show held in the Auckland pro-! rince. Auckland and North Auckland I were fully represented in fat sheep and j lambs for freezing purposes, some of the | finest, indeed, that could be seen in the j Auckland province. Horses of all classes are exceptionally good, and on the whole there i= a splendid exhibition of horse flesh, especially young draughts. Pigs in the past have not made a strone; display, but this year good entries were received, and competition is keen. The show ground is particularly well appointed, and plenty of shade is provided for snectators underneath the trees on the natural grandstand. THE PRIZE I/I ST.
