CROV.'DS OF SPECTATORS. (By Telegraph .—Own Correspondent.) HAMILTON", this day. Hamilton"s Anniversary Day rowing regatta took place to-day on the Wai-j kato Rover, in beautiful weather, a great | crowd being .gathered on the bank to ! witness the events. Xo Southern crews are present this year, but all the Auckland clubs are represented. The Xew Zealand ihampion four — Sandos. Bayley, St. Clair, and Curtis —| are taking part in the main event. Jerry I lair, the Xew Zealand champion sculler, is not racing, owing to illness. Racine was started late, owing to the delayed arrival of the Auckland train. Results:— I Junior Four?, vrelter weight, one mile anil ahalf.—Hamilton 1. St. George's J, Auckland 3. Five crews started. Hamilton hopped off froai tho start, followed by St. George's. These two appeared tirst uuclit the railway bridg>\ with West Eud coming right across tlin river, and lowing several lengths. Hamilton, rowing comfortably. | won liy one length and α-nalt, Auckland . ' Maiu«Hi Fours, lwst and under, about one | mile—-Waitemata 1, Mercer J, West Eud V,. j From a tairly even start. Mercer and I Walteuiata had rather the best of it. I Coming to the railway bridge, Oliver's Mercer crew held a length's advantage over j Waitemata. The latter, hanging on to the east bank, kept their water, and forged ahead, rowing in good style, and won by two lengths from Mercer, who made a tinnl spurt near home, failin?. however, to reach the leaders. West End were three I lengths away, third, and St. George's were fourth.
