POWERS' NAVIES.
THE BUILDING PROGRAMME. LONDON, January 19. In a speech at Ludlow, the First Lord of the Admiralty (Mr. W. C. Bridgeman) reviewed the Government's record. He said it was not generally known that the other great maritime Powers, namely, the United States, Japan, France, and Italy, had laid down since the war over jUO warships, ranging from cruisers downward, while Britain's contribution was only 11. "So do not let anybody say we have led the competition in new construction of warships," said the speaker.Reutsr.
