THE HOSPITAL BOARD.
■ lit. nuoi l l ni_ uuoou. . The Auckland Hospital Board met last evening, the chairman (Mr. W. Wallace) presiding. Present : Mrs. E. A. Kidd and Messrs. J. Dempsev. J. MeLeod. J. P. Chalmers. E. H. Putter. G. Knight. S. J. Harbutt. M. .1. Coyle and W. K. Hewitt The Director General of Health. Dr. T. 11. A. Valinrine. advised that the Department had agreed to the terms covering rhe proposed transfer to the board of the Government bacteriological laboratory in Auckland. The letter .-rated that the Department agreed to pay £1300 as a minimum contribution for the lirat year, any deficiencies above that figure to be made good by the Department. It was proposed tv hand over the laboratory on April 1. A protest against the cost of the interior alterations and additions at present b«inc carried out at the Costley block of the Auckland Infirmary, was made by the Director General. The director als-o complained of the action of th- board in commencing work before applies; in had been made for Ministerial consent. The chairman stated that it was clear that a mistake had been made in not first obtaining the consent of the Minister, and it was resolved that an apology. together with an assurance that the mistake would not be repeated, be forwarded to the director. A letter from the Hospital Board Association explained the objects of a national hospital day The board was of the opinion that the observance of a day in Auckland would be of little benefit. The letter was received.
