THE RECENT RAINFALL
* — I I NOT EXTENSIVE IN THE NORTH. WHANGAREI, Tuesday. Although the rainfall up to !) a.m. to-day in Wha-ngarei measured (according to Mr. L. Hanlon, meteorological observer). 2.-To' inches, it has now been ascertained tiiat the beneficial downpour was confined in its area. In particular, the Bay of Islands, with the exception of the Mangakaaia section, did not have as much rain as fell further south. The electrical disturbance seemed to be confined to practically Whangarei county, as contrary to earlier expectations, nothing unusual in the wav of rainfall was experienced south of Oakleigh. Against this, while Hobson. and particularly Dargaville. had heavy rains on Sunday, the eastern side had" only a sprinkling till yesterday's phenomenal downpour. =
