WHITE ISLAND WIRELESS.
A USEFUL INSTALLATION. . 9 (By Telegraph.— Preys Association.) ! OrOTIKI, this day. 1 The -wireless installation on White 'island provides a useful means of com- i ' niunication with Opotiki. While Major Mercer was on the island on Sunday a message was despatched from OpotiKl requesting that the launch Waihau be allowed to proceed from the island to Raukokore, eastward of Opotiki, to bring a shepherd who was dangerously ill to the hospital. The request was granted, and the man on being brought to Opotiki, was found to be suffering from appendicitis. An operation was promtply performed. As there was no launch available at Opotiki at the time, the use of wireless probably saved the man's life.
