ACCIDENT INSURANCE.

FOR PERMANENT HANDS. IIANUKAU COUNTY COUNCIL'S DECISION. Acting on a suggestion from the County Engineer, the Finance Committee of the Manukau County Council, at its last meeting, considered" the question of the payment of wages to men on the council's permanent staff who might be incapacitated and receiving insurance compensation. The engineer had reported that at the present time the men -were receiving little more than half-pay, as, beyond the insurance, the payment of wages ceased immediately after the accident. At the meeting to"----day the following resolution from" the committee was put forward: "That the council be recommended that, in cases where permanent employees suffer injury while in the course of their work in the council's employ, and are incapacitated, the difference between the insurance compensation and their ordi nary wage be paid by the council for a penod not exceeding one month, after which time, should the person concerned still be unable to commence work the case- to be placed before the council lor further consideration."
