MOUNT EDEN CLUB'S GALA.

THE 50 YARDS CHAMPIONSHIP, j ADAMSON AND FAIRGKAY DEADHEAT. There was a '.arse attendance at the ' Mount Eden swimming baths last night for. the second carnival of the Mount Eden I Amateur Swimming Club, and Those pre- f gent were treated to an excellent programme of event?. The 50 yards oham- ] pionship of Auckland proved an exciting display, and resulted in A. D. Adamson and L. Fairsray dead-heating for first | place. .T. Enwrishf. the holder, swam < third, being beaten by a touch. The time, 26 2-os, was 2-os outside the record. The i 100 yards ladies' handicap was a sood ] race. Miss Plri Paze paining the verdict from Miss E. Grant, with Miss Stockley j third. Miss Edna Champion again came to the forefront and annexed the 50 yards Junior girls' handicap, alter swimming a great race from scratch. The SSO yards club handicap was swum off in two heats, the final to be decided at the next carnival to be held by the club. A. E. Balrd in-the first heat conceded 120s and was handicapped right out of the race. R. De Lorree. on 90s. getting the verdict. E. V. Cunnold on 16s easily won the second heat after a great exhibition. A water polo match between the Auckland reps, to play at Napier find the Rest of Auckland provided a good game, the Rest gained the verdict by 2 goals to 1. The club officials were lacking in none of the essentials that go towards making a successful carnival, and their efforts were such that those present spent a thoroughly enjoyable evening. 880 Yards Club Handicap winner to hold Brewer Cup for 12 months i. —First heat: R. De Lorree Mount Eden I. 90s. 1; R. Webster (Devonport). 120s. 2: A. E. Baird (Waitemata i. s«:r. 3. L. L. Kroafeld also started. Webster had a lead of 4i lengths when Baird went in. Although Baird swam well and reduced the lead to I about a length he could not overhaul the j limit man. Webster gave way to De Lorree I on the twenty-second lap. and the latter j won by 4 yards from Webster, with Baird about one length away, third. Time. 13m 225. Second heat: E. V. Cunnold ( Waitematai. 16s. 1; C. Wittpn (Mount Edpni. 115 a. 2: H. E. Lynch (Ponsonby). 120s. 3. W. Foster on 130s also started. Cun- | nold swam a great race and caught and | passed Witten and Lynch when there were ! four lengths to no. Cunnold won by eight yards, six yards being between Witten and Lynch. Time. 13m 4s. The men got away well and were all up at the first length, with Curtayne holding a slight advantage. In a great finish Curtayne won by a touch, the same distance being between second and third. Time. 43 4-OS. 100 Yards Ladies' Handicap.—Miss P. Page (Grammar), 4s. 1; Miss E. Grant (Grammar i os. 2; Miss E. Stockley (Waitemata), scr, 3. There were sis «.tartprs. Miss O. Harvey on 10s made the pace, but the other competitors soon reduced the distance. Miss Stockley was swimming well, but Miss Pace took the lead at the third length and held it. Entering into the fourth lap Miss Stockley swam into third place, and in a battle royal Miss Page won by a yard from Miss Grant, who beat Miss Stockley by a touch. Time,'7l 2-os. 50 Yards Auckland Championship (holder. J. Enwright. Waitemata). —First heat: J. Enwright i Waitemata i. 1: J. Meikle (Waitemata), 2. From a great start Enwright. C'rossley and Meikle set the pace. The former won a great race by a yard. Time. 2.Ss. Second heat: A. D. Adamson (Waitemata), 1: L. Fairgray (Waitemata i. 2. L. L. Kronfeld also started. The swimmers went all out. and kept together until the turn, where Kronfeid made a bad turn and Adamson sprinted in to win by a touch. Time, 26 4-ss. Final : From a great start the swimmers made, the pace. Fairgray and Adamson went to the front, and in a beautiful finish these two men touched together. Enwright being a tonch away, third. Time, 26 2-ss. The record is 2«s.

Riddell and Bruton kept together until the fourth lap. where Lowe dropped out, and Breton swam into second place. WAITEMATA CLUB'S CARNIVAL.

A SPLENDID PROGRAMME. Although swimming has been in much prominence dilrina the past couple of weeks, the interest in the sport is being wp!l suptained. Following on the two successful championship carnivals held last week, the YVaitemata Club's 2a la set down for the Tepid Baths this evening is not likely to be less interesting A splendid series of handicaps have been arranged, find with the capabilities of the shimmers thoroughly revealed, the handicipp<r has had his tii=k somewhat simplified. In fhfi quarter-mile handicap, the epi«! strusrrle bPtwpon Bnirfl. Enwrliht and Peiham s-hould be repeated. The inclusion nt Cunnold and several other? should ensure a solid pace throughout. In Misses Sfockley. Pace and Bell, the YTairemnra ri-tib boasts three of the best lady swimmer* in the Dominion today, and the 100 y:irri?' handicap at this carnival will see rfcc trio anxious to Improve on their records. Water polo has been assiduously played of late, so that the match between the Auckland representative team and the next best seven should furnish a good name. This carnival is really the final try-out of the team seieeted to represent Auckland at the Npw Zealand champi.iHsh'.p meeting, which commences at Napier on Saturday next. Doubtless there will he a enod attendance of the public to witness the final exhibitions by the cam prior to defending the hiph reputation it sainpd last year.
