NEW TRAFFIC BRIDGE.

•OVER OHINEMURI RIVER. PAEROA, Thursday. For \ jome time past the question of erecting. a new traffic bridge over the Oliinenntri River at Paeroa has been exercising the minds of the • Public Works'' Department. A letter from tire Engineer-in-Chief of the Department has been received by the Paeroa Borough Council, together with . plans . and specifications for the structure. The plans provide for building the' "bridge at a level to fit in with the river stop-banking system, and the structure will have a roadway i 8 feet wide, and a footway in addition. The estimated cost of the work, including formation and metalling of the approaches was £12,280, and the Minister has. decided that "the basis of contribution should be: Waihou and Ohinemuri Rivers Improvement Fund, £3250; Public Works Fund, £4500; Paeroa Borough and Ohinemuri County, £4000. If the cost exceeded that sum, such additional cost would be apportioned on the same basis. In a covering letter the Department stated: "It is necessary for your council as the controlling: authority to arrange with the Ohinemuri County Council the basis of contribution by the two local bodies, and for the payrujj i n to the Public Account of the necessary contribution, so that steps can then be taken to proceed with the erect.on.
