Miss Gwen Lamrock, of Dunedin, who has been touring the North Island, is at present staying at "Arundel." Miss Rita Barry, of Giaborne, who is paying a visit to Auckland, is the guest of her sister, Mrs. M. P. McSweeney, of Harris Street, Pukekohe. . Mr. and Mrs. G. G. Graham and Miss Madge Graham, of Parnell Road, Remuera, who have been on a trip to the Old Country, America and the Continent, returned home by the Maunganui last week. Miss Olgo Gloy, of the Home Science Department, Otago University, is at present studying for her doctor's degree at the Columbia University, New York City. Recently she was the guest of the American Women's Association, and one of the chief speakers of the evening at its big dinner at the Plaza Hotel. The. other speakers were representatives from Russia, Italy, and Czecho-Slovakia. Miss Gloy spoke about [New Zealand and women's activities here. There are many picture exhibitions open in London at present, but not many New Zealanders are showing at these autumn- fixtures. At the International, Mr. Oswald Birley has two portraits hung: "The Hon. W. Ormeaby Gore, M.P.," and "Miss Elsie de Wolfe." At the Goupil Gallery Salon Mr. K. S. Hellaby . has" two -fine landscapes, "Sussex" and "The Romney Marsh," painted with breadth and sufeness, ; while Miss Ruth Hollingworth's "China Ducks" is a brilliant piece of still life. Mr. Raymond Mclntyre's "Room in a Cottage," ; full of sunlight, and the sketch "Street in Chelsea" are excellent studies. He shows too, two delightful little water-colours, "Tulips" and "Various Flowers." Mrs. Edwin Geach, of "Cliff House," Cremorne, is at present visiting her mother at Wellington, New Zealand, where she intends to remain until early in the New Year. An enjoyable afternoon was given at the residence of Mrs. W. J. Potter, Kipling Avenue, by her daughter Poppy in honour of the approaching marriage of Mies Lai Munro Wilson, to Mr. Phil Seabrook. The guests.were entertained by music and' competitions. To receive her guests Miss Potter wore a dainty frock of fuchsia georgette, trimmed with flowers of a deeper tone. Miss L. Miss Mary Conan Doyle, daughter of the famous writer, is making a name for herself as a musician. Recently a most enjoyable' concert was given at the jEolian Hall by the Scotia Folksong Quartet. Mice Conan Doyle arranged the music for voice, "Violin, 'cello and piano. ENGAGEMENT. The engagement is announced of Ivy, only daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John H. Gregory, Remuera, to Sydney, elder son of Mr. and Mrs. H. M. Marler. Ponsonby. The engagement is announced of Miss Mavis Bruce, fourth daughter of Mr. and Mrs. A. On December 29 a quiet wedding was celebrated at St. Pael's Cathedral (say* the "Otago Times"), when - Henrietta Harlo Giles, eldest daughter of Mrs. and the late Mr. Harle Giles, of Auckland, was married to Captain Freeman-Greene (Grenadier Guards), eldest son of the late Rev. W. E. Freeman-Greene, M.A., at one time vicar of St. Mary's, Stamford Brook, London, England, and Mrs. Freeman-Greene. The Rev. Canon Nevill officiated. The bride, who had been the guest of Mrs. Lightfoot, at St. Kilda, was attended by Mise Berridge and Miss Ingram, both of Auckland, and was given away by Mr. Lightfoot. A wedding was celebrated at the Synagogue, Wellington, on New Year's Eve, when Miss Hannah Solomons, only daughter of Mr. and Mrs. I. Solomons, of Wellington, was married Mr. Harry Robinson, eldest eon of Mr. and Mrs. N. Robinson, of Stanley Bay, Auckland. The canopy holders were Messrs. C. Robinson, L. Stone, S. Meadow and L. Harris. Miss I. Robinson, sister of the bridegroom,, and Miss H. Spiro were bridesmaids.Mr. S. Solomons, brother of the bride, was best man. The bride wore a frock of French -silver brocade with' flared side panels of mariette, and small sprays of orange blossoms. Her" Brussels net veil formed the train, and was worn with a coronet of orange' blossoms. The wedding bouquet of white orchids and carnations with touches of pink a.nd a trailing horseshoe of flowers. Miss J. Robinson, chief bridesmaid, wore a powder blue crepe do chine frock with panels of silver lace, and a bandeau to match. Miss H: Spiro was in shell pink pleated georgette, with a bandeau to match. Both bridesmaids carried bouquets, to match their frocks. The bride's mother was in French Oriental brocade, and a hat to match, with Paradise plumes. The bridegroom's mother wore a frock of black satin beaute, and a hat with Paradise plumes. After the ceremony the breakfast was held,- when there were 200 guests present.

ROTORUA NOTES. Miss B. Evans, who has been on an extended tour ■of England and the Continent, arrived back in New Zealand by the Maunganur, and' has returned to Rotorua. Misa De Rolls, who has been the guest of Mrs. McKenzic, Amahau Street, has returned to Fielding, motoring via Taupo and Napier. Mr. and Mrs. F. Kellum and family, who are on a world's tour in their yacht Kainiiloa, are visiting Rotorua, and have taken Mr. Nigro's residence at Kewhaka Point for six weeks. Mr. Kellum intends spending the greater part of the time trout fishing. Mrs. Dyson, Auckland, ie the guest of Mrs. C. H. Worthington, Sophia St. Mrs. F. Wilkie, Pukaki Street, is on a two months' holiday to New Plymouth. Mr. and Mrs. Falls, of Napier, have returned to Rotorua from a short visit to Auckland. Miss M. Hogg, Peace Street, is spending a holiday in Hawke's Bay. Mrs. E. La Trobe Hill and Miss G. Hill, are spending a holiday at Mount' Maunganui. Mr. Montgomery, of the Rotorua State Forestration Department, has been transferred to Hanmer, and with Mrs. Montgomery and family, leaves Rotorua at the end of the week for his new home. i The members of the Devon Street Ladies' Guild entertained Mrs. Montgomery, who is leaving shortly to take up her residence at Hanmer, .at a delightful afternoon at the Devon Stre?t! Hall, which was prettily decorated with; bowls of pink Dorothy Perkins roses. During the afternoon a competition was held, and won by Mrs. Chatterton and! Mrs. Montgomery. After afternoon tea. I Archdeacon F. W. Chatterton, on behalf of the Devon Street Ladies' Guild,! presented Mrs. Montgomery with a grey J suede handbag and puree to match, and, in a brief speech, expressed regret at losing such an energetic and enthusiastic worker, who had been one of the main promoters in the movement to build the hall, and .wished Mrs. Montgomery and her family all happiness in her new home.
