START ON NEW BRIDGE OVER I

COX'S CREEK.

The permanent paving of the mai& northern highway is now completed a_ far as Scroggy Hill, and excavating work. 1 is in full progress at the Henderson end of the concrete ribbon to the ranges. It had been expected to start laying the concrete from the northern terminal at the beginning of this monfcV but the schedule proved to be rather ambitious even for the expert gang of t men on the job. This will not long !be delayed now, however, and thougtr motorists will not have the advantage of the finished road right through to Henderson this summer, thp work should be completed before the heavy winter weather sets in to retard the preliminary excavation. , ' The City Council roading department is making good progress with the widening and grading of the West End Road, while the old wooden bridge across Cox's Creek is being replaced by a ferro-con-crete structure. The work of driving the piles for the new bridge has already •been started, and the stone embankment on the- western side of the causeway leading to the further end of Grey Lynn' is nearly completed. * The new bridge will he a 'big improvement on the old one, besides allowing a foot more room: between high water level and the tinder part of the span.
