LITTLE STEAMER WAIRAU.

STRANDED FOR A WEEK. (By Telegraph—Own Correspondent.) CHRISTCHURCH, this day. The coastal steamer, Wairau, due in Lyttelton on Sunday last from Blenheim, has been on the Wairau bar for a week, lt is common enough for the vessel to get stranded at Blenheim, but she has hitherto been floated off on the next tide. She is a wooden steamer of 143 tons gross, built in 1000 at Totara North for Mr. T. F. Eckford, Blenheim. A. Jackson is the skipper in command. The seas are piling up the shingle underneath the vessel's stern. She is in a similar position to that of the Whakatu near the mouth of the Clarence River last year. The Wairau went ashore on a spring tide and & is doubtful if she can be refloated before next spring tide. . .
