ACCLIMATISATION.

ONE AUCKLAND SOCIETY. NORTHERN PETITION REFUSED. (By Telegraph.—Special to "Star.") WELLINGTON, this dayf The Minister of Internal Affairs, tie Hon. R. F._ Bollard, recently held a conference with representatives of the Auckland Acclimatisation Society and delegates from Waikato sportsmen, who had petitioned the Government to form a new acclimatisation society, covering the South Auckland area. As tie master was one of policy, it was submitted by the Minister to Cabinet, which has decided that an additional acclimatisation district is not to be authorised. The principal reason against granting the desires of the petitioners appears to be that the sub-districts of Auckland j which desire the change do not represent the bulk of the sub-districts south of Mercer, the proposed new district, and that those who favour the change are not sufficiently grouped to enable such a district to be formed on compact lines.
