NORTH SHORE WATER.
c ... -I AUXILIARY SCHEMES. '.TAUPO AND WAITAKERE., Reporting to the Northcote Borough Council last evening, the -waterworks engineer, Mr. John Williamson recommended that the Auckland Provincial Water Board Bill be not signed, >ut that the council express itself in favour of the formation of a.general water toatd to deal with the whole water supply question. The Mayor, Mr. C. A. Deuxberry, stated that a combined meeting of the North Shore borough councils was to be held in the Auckland Chamber of Commerce on Friday evening, when particulars would be furnished in connection with the Taupo scheme on behalf of the promotors of the Provincial Water Board, and .also. ofv* supply being obtainca from Waitafcere on" behalf of the North'" Shore 'Wafer Board. He pointed out ,that the N;orth fhore boroughs would comprise nearly one-third of the possible consumers''of the bodies now interested in the Taupo scheme, for which £3,000,000 would-b» required. That meant -that the North Shore would be responsible for Some £900,000 if that scheme were accepted. The North Shore Water Board, however, had under consideration a suggested supply from Waitakere, to cost £170,W). If the representatives of the North Shore boroughs decided that the Waitakere was the more advantageons.itbil would strengthen the hands of the-pre-sent Water Board. He also stated thit a clause would be inserted in the proposed bill providing for the superseding of "the North Shore Water Board by. the Provincial Board. Consideration of the recommendation was deferred pending the information to be given at Friday's meeting.
